Ricky Gervais at work on new UK series
LONDON (Hollywood Reporter) ñ Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, co-creators of “The Office” and “Extras,” are working on a new six-part series, “Life’s Too Short,” for the BBC.
The series pickup follows the success of the duo’s pilot show of the same name for BBC2.
Like the pilot, the series will center on Warwick Davis, Britain’s pre-eminent little-person actor, who has appeared in such box-office hit franchises as “Star Wars” and “Harry Potter.” The observational comedy follows Warwick’s ups and downs and daily frustrations as he struggles to deal with life designed for people of a larger size.
“Third in our trilogy of TV sitcoms, Life’s Too Short is another naturalist observational comedy, dealing with everyday problems, human foibles and social faux pas … but with a dwarf,” said Gervais.
Gervais and Merchant have begun writing six 30-minute episodes for the BBC’s in-house comedy division, and will make occasional appearances on the show, which is to be filmed in 2011. They will serve as directors and executive producers of the series.
