The Next James Bond On Hold Indefinitely
In a press release issued today the company behind the Bond franchise, EON Productions, announced that for the time being, Bond 23 is pretty much dead.
MGMís financial troubles are to blame, and thereís been speculation for weeks that the next James Bond movie might be on hold until the studio sorts out its financial troubles. There had been some level of pre-production planning still happening on the project, but from the tone of this announcement it sounds like even that is at an end.
Hereís the official statement from producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON:
Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on Bond 23 indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of Bond 23.
Interestingly, MGMís financial troubles may not delay the studioís other big, in production franchise. Over the weekend Peter Jackson here that they could begin shooting The Hobbit this fall. Bond on the other hand, is going nowhere. If they keep delaying, Quantum of Solace could end up being the last we see of Daniel Craig as 007.
