Carrie Underwood sees no end in sight for ‘Play’
Country star Carrie Underwood has extended her ongoing North American trek through the end of the year as she continues to back last year’s “Play On,” her third studio album.
The outing–the spring leg for which continues April 23 in Grand Rapids, MI, and runs through late June–will pick back up in early fall after a handful of summer festival appearances. The new fall leg, which features dates in more than 45 cities, kicks off Sept. 25 in Portland, OR, stretching through a Dec. 19 date in Calgary, Alberta.
Tickets for the newly added shows go on sale April 24. Details are included below.
Underwood dropped her latest studio set, “Play On,” last November. The record notched the biggest first-week sales total for any female recording artist last year, and the second-best sales week for any country artist in 2009, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures as reported by Billboard.
The recent album followed 2007’s “Carnival Ride” in debuting at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. Underwood spent 2008 on the road for her 137-show “Carnival Ride Tour,” which attracted more than 1.2 million fans.
In January, Underwood took home a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for “I Told You So” with Randy Travis. The 27-year-old former “American Idol” winner has already received four Grammy trophies, including Best Female Country Vocal Performance for the last three years.
