It’s A Long Weekend In America
If you are wondering who did what at the box office this weekend, there won’t be any numbers released by the studios until later today as it is the Memorial Day Long Weekend in The U.S.
But although I don’t have any official numbers yet, I can tell you that “Star Wars: Episode II- Attack of the Clones” is on its on its way to beating the $200 million mark by the end of the holiday weekend.
The latest in the “Star Wars” franchise pulled $18.1 million Saturday, which combined with Friday’s $12.8 million, adds up to more than $172 million in box office receipts since it opened Thursday, May 16.
Meanwhile, “Spider-Man” crossed the $300 million mark in total box office Friday, as expected. The film drew $7.3 million Friday and $11.4 million Saturday.
“Insomnia” opened Friday, beating out fellow new films “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” and “Enough” for third place. “Insomnia” pulled $7.9 million Saturday, and $6 million Friday, while “Spirit” grossed $7.0 and $4.5 million, respectively. Jennifer Lopez’s “Enough” landed in fifth place, drawing $5 million Saturday and $4.5 million Friday.
Universal’s “About a Boy” held in the top 10, placing sixth Saturday with $2.8 million, followed by “Unfaithful’s” $2.3 million and “The New Guy’s” $1.6 million. “Changing Lanes” and”My Big Fat Greek Wedding” placed eight and ninth, respectively.
