Ben Stiller Directly Addresses Zoolander 2

Ben Stiller has made a lot of good movies during his nearly three decade career as an actor, writer and director. If we’re being honest, quite a few of them are better than Zoolander, but thanks to its goofy charm and flat out ridiculousness, that’s the film many of his fans care about most. As such, there’s been a steady stream of conjecture, rumors and hopes related to a potential sequel for the past decade, most of which were not fueled nor addressed by Ben Stiller. Fortunately, he finally decided to speak on the record this week, and well, it’s not the best news for hardcore fans who want more.

Ben Stiller was giving a Master Class at the Taormina Film Festival yesterday when he opened up the floor for questions. Of course, he was hit with some weird requests related to autographs, pictures and even a painting someone in the crowd did of him, but eventually, the crowd settled down and asked the question on all of our minds. What the hell is going on with Zoolander 2?

Well, in short, a whole lot of nothing. Here’s the quote, as per The Hollywood Reporter:

“The film’s been discussed and in some way in the works for ten years, but there are no plans to start production any time soon.”

Let me do my best to put that into non-industry terms. We’re tentatively interested in making another Zoolander. We probably even have a few good ideas for where it might go, but there are quite a few other things we’re more excited about. So, until we come up with an incredible idea, the studio decides it’s the right time or there’s an incredible groundswell of support among fans, it’ll keep on keeping on as an ace in the hole that can be pulled out at any moment, preferably one in which Billy Zane is available.

At some point, Ben Stiller and company will likely get around to returning to Derek Zoolander. There’s just too much fun to be had with that character and potentially, too much money to quietly take out of people’s wallets. I suspect we may need to wait another five years or so for that to happen. So, strike your best pose and plan to be patient.
