David Frost dies: British broadcaster and ‘Frost/Nixon’ basis was 74
Legendary British broadcaster Sir David Frost has died at 74 years old. In a statement to the BBC, his family confirms that David suffered a suspected heart attack, while giving a speech on board a cruise ship Saturday night (August 31).
As a journalist, Frost will likely most be remembered for a series of interviews he conducted with former President of the United States Richard Nixon, two years after he resigned from the office in the wake of the Watergate scandal. “I let down the country,” Nixon admitted during the talks.
The interviews were adapted into a play, which later became the movie “Frost/Nixon,” directed by Ron Howard. The movie garnered five Academy Award nominations.
The statement from his family says they are devastated and wish for privacy. “A family funeral will be held in the near future and details of a memorial service will be announced in due course.” Frost and his wife, Lady Carina Fitzalan-Howard, had three sons.
