‘Sherlock’ star Martin Freeman joins new Simon Pegg movie

Sherlock star Martin Freeman has been cast alongside Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in their new movie The World’s End.

The film is the final instalment in the so-called ‘Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy’ from writer-director Edgar Wright and writer-star Pegg. The loose movie trilogy began in 2004 with zombie comedy Shaun Of The Dead and continued with 2007’s Hot Fuzz, a spoof of so-called “buddy cop” action flicks.

The World’s End will follow a group of childhood friends who reunite 20 years later for an epic pub crawl. However, as their drinking marathon progresses, events take an apocalyptic twist.

The film, once again directed by Wright from a script co-written with Pegg, went into production at the end of last week (September 28). The cast also includes Eddie Marsan, recently seen in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes films, and former Bond girl Rosamund Pike. Actor Paddy Considine, who appeared with Pegg and Frost in Hot Fuzz, joined the film back in September (2012).

The World’s End is scheduled for release in August 2013. In the meantime, Freeman will be seen as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s first The Hobbit movie, which is due this December (2012).
