Michael Shannon To Play Villainous Zod In Zack Snyder’s ‘Man Of Steel’
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Zack Snyder has secured a villain for “Superman: Man of Steel.”
“Boardwalk Empire’s” Michael Shannon, who received an Academy Award nomination for his supporting role in Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road,” has signed on to play the malicious General Zod for Sndyer’s upcoming “Superman” reboot, Warner Bros. announced on Sunday.
“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t,” Snyder said in a statement to Deadline, which was first to report the superhero casting news. “Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Shannon joins British actor Henry Cavill, who is playing Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams who has signed on to play Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner who will play Martha and Jonathan Kent.
“Superman: Man of Steel” is slated for release in December 2012.
