Twain’s Why Not? to chronicle personal struggles
Canadian country star Shania Twain will revisit her life and her return to music in her new television series premiering in May.
Producers of Why Not? with Shania Twain announced Thursday that the hour-long show will have its debut the evening of May 8 on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
The series will have its Canadian debut on May 27, according to Corus Entertainment, which broadcasts OWN programming in Canada.
Why Not? is billed as a “personal journey” with the pop-country singer, bandmates and friends as she crosses the U.S. and Canada.
Stops include her former home in Timmins, Ont., to revisit her impoverished childhood and speak about the sudden death of her parents in a car accident.
Cameras will also follow Twain as she meets with vocal coaches and grief counsellors, talks to others who have suffered hardships in their lives and seeks career advice from music industry figures like Gladys Knight and David Foster.
On the show, Twain will also discuss the breakdown of her marriage to former collaborator Robert (Mutt) Lange in 2008, as well as her relationship with second husband FrËdËric ThiËbaud, whom she married on Jan. 1.
Twain, a 12-time winner at Canada’s Juno Awards, will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at this year’s gala March 27 in Toronto. Atria Books, an imprint of Simon and Schuster, is also slated to publish an autobiography by the chart-topping singer this spring.
