Mick Jagger Working on Solo Record: Report
Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is reportedly hard at work on a record with producer Dave Stewart in Los Angeles — or so says Jagger’s baby brother, Chris.
In an interview airing yesterday (Mar. 1) with a Portuguese TV station, during which Chris discussed his own music career, the lesser-known of the Jagger brothers mentioned that Mick does his best to keep in touch. “He’s doing a record at the moment in Los Angeles with Dave Stewart,” Chris Jagger mentioned. “He called me last night telling me what he was doing.”
The album would be Jagger’s first solo effort since 2001’s “Goddess in the Doorway,” but it would not be the first time the rocker frontman has collaborated with Dave Stewart. The producer, who first made his name as one half of the Eurythmics, co-wrote several songs on Jagger’s 1987 solo album, “Primitive Cool.” The two collaborated again in 2004 for three original songs that appeared on the soundtrack of the “Alfie” remake.
The news coincides with tweets last week from Roots drummer Questlove, who reported he was in a New York studio with Jagger, but did not specify on what they were working.
Stewart has his own album, titled “The Blackbird Diaries,” coming this spring, and worked as a producer with both Stevie Nicks and Joss Stone on their upcoming albums. Jagger’s last high-profile outing was at the 2011 Grammy Awards last month, where he performed a tribute to Solomon Burke.
