Country duo says Britney hit a rip-off
The Bellamy Brothers accused Britney Spears of ripping off their 1979 hit If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body, Would You Hold It Against Me.
Singer David Bellamy has made the claim after hearing the pop star’s new song Hold it Against Me, but insists he won’t be taking Spears to court.
In a statement, he says, “Howard and I have no personal beef with Britney. She’s a talented gal. But professionally, well, in all honesty, we feel completely ripped off. Where’s the originality?
“If you listen to the lyrics… you’ll find some major similarities.”
If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body, Would You Hold It Against Me, which Bellamy calls “one of the defining songs of our career”, was a number one hit in the U.S. in 1979. Spears’ new song is currently number one on the iTunes chart.
