Stones deny split reports
A spokesperson has dismissed reports Charlie Watts has quit The Rolling Stones – insisting the drummer and his bandmates are celebrating together after scoring a number one album.
Rumours about the percussionist began swirling after an Australian website speculated about his future in the band, suggesting Watts had grown tired of touring and would no longer perform with the group.
But a rep for the Brown Sugar hitmakers has been quick to issue a denial, insisting, “Contrary to a fabricated and ill-informed report that appeared yesterday on a small music website in Australia, we would like to make it clear that drummer Charlie Watts has not left The Rolling Stones.”
The spokesperson adds that Watts plans to spend Monday “celebrating with the rest of the Stones…as the Exile album is number one in the U.K. charts”.
The rockers’ Exile on Main Street record, which was first issued in 1972, has reached the top spot in Britain – marking the Stones’ first number one in their native country since Voodoo Lounge in 1994.
