Me watch TV tonight!

What’s on TV: Tuesday
–Is this what TV does to people? Josh began his run on American Idol (Fox, tonight, 8 ET/PT) as a stiff but endearingly polite soldier and became an early fan favorite because of it. Now, a mere three months later, he comes across as an overweight, rude redneck, snarling at his elders and refusing to accept even the mildest criticism. The Marines had better reclaim him fast, before he’s ruined for good.
–Rob Estes guests on Gilmore Girls (WB, 8 p.m. ET/PT) as Jess’ long-lost father, Jimmy. If all goes according to plan, Jimmy will eventually take Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) home with him, launching the two of them into their own series. We’ll worry about crossing that bridge should it ever actually be built.
–Here’s even better news. 24 (Fox, 9 p.m. ET/PT) breaks out of an extended post-bomb slump with one of the season’s most exciting episodes. The spark is the first confrontation between two of the show’s heavyweights — Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) and Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald). It’s a fine hour overall, with a few characters getting their long-deserved comeuppances. But it would be worth watching just to hear Jack growl, “Don’t try me, Mrs. Palmer.” How long we’ve waited for someone to say that.
