Elton John Guests On New Brian Wilson Album
Elton John will make a guest appearance on an upcoming album by Beach Boys legend, Brian Wilson. John sings and plays piano on a song called “How Can We Still Be Dancing.” Wilson said he also wants to collaborate with Sting and Eric Clapton.
Wilson told Rolling Stone, in the publication’s May 15 issue, that the new album has “a little more thickness to it. The sound is a little more ballsy.” He is recording with his regular touring band, the L.A. group, the Wondermints. No release date has been announced.
Clapton joined Wilson and his band onstage last year, during an October 6 benefit for the Carl Wilson Foundation at Royce Hall, on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles. He played guitar and shared vocals on the Beach Boys’ “Warmth Of The Sun” and took a rhythm part for “Good Vibrations,” adding blues licks at the end of the song. He also played during encores of “Barbara Ann” and “Surfin’ USA.”
Wilson will play three shows in June on the East Coast. The first concert, set for June 14 in Boston, at the Hatch Memorial Shell, coincides with his receiving an honorary degree from Northeastern University. Wilson and his band will also perform on June 16 in New York City at the Beacon Theatre and on June 17 in Newark, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
