Thailand Criticizes Aguilera Video
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) – Christina Aguilera’s new video is being criticized in Thailand and it’s not for her scanty outfit or pelvic thrusts.
The protests are aimed at posters in the video that allude to Thailand’s sex industry. The video for “Dirrty” features Aguilera dancing around a boxing ring with posters in the Thai language that read, “Thailand’s sex tourism” and “Young underage girls.”
A representative for Aguilera’s record company in Thailand tells The Nation newspaper that the label will not air the video on local television.
A government official says local and foreign businesses are too profit-oriented to present an accurate portrayal of Thailand. The government will take more action if the video is found to be damaging to Thailand’s reputation, although it did not go into details.
