I hope your weekend was great too!

MAN DID I HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Normally I wouldn’t bore you with the details of what I did during the weekend. But what I was able to do this weeknd was far from normal.

I got to see Paul McCartney this weekend.

Now I’m not one to fawn all over musicians as I’ve been fortunate enought to see and meet a lot of them. But during Sir Paul’s show at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto (Home of the Maple Leafs!) on Saturday- his only Canadian date on his “Driving Rain” tour- I had tears in my eyes.

It was so overwhelming I actually cried!

McCartney’s 36-song set list was brimming with love songs to both his future and late wife and tributes to deceased bandmates George Harrison and John Lennon. Not to mention his own dearly departed mother and Lennon’s son Julian. Still, McCartney was able to emphasize Beatles material over everything else in his two-and-a-half-hour show much to my delight and the 16,000 fans who sang along with me.

Yes, he kept the new stuff to a minimum and played song after Beatles song along with some choice cuts from his days with Wings and as a solo artist.

We in the Toronto audience also got the special added treat of “Mull Of Kintyre” during the second encore complete with a Pipe Band. The song wasn’t a hit in America so he doesn’t play the song there. Only in Canada, eh? Pity, indeed!

His stage was stripped down, with the exception of an abundance of video screens, which worked extremely well during the Beatles songs, All My Loving and Can’t Buy Me Love, as black and white archival footage of The Fab Four was played in the background.

Paul McCartney sang old songs, he did recent ones and even some new tunes. He moved me.

Yet at the end of the show he thanks me, and the entire audience, for coming.

No Paul! Thank you!
