I wish I was excited by this announcement.

Rolling Stones unveil tour dates

In what could be the most uneventful tour announcement ever, the Rolling Stones unveiled details for a nine, yes, nine-date North America tour.

This comes after rumours circulated for weeks that the band would be hitting 18 cities. There’s just one Canadian stop.

The tour, called 50 and Counting, will start in Los Angeles next month (tour kickoff date will be announced soon), and will make its way to Toronto on May 25 at the Air Canada Centre. Tickets for the T.O. gig go on sale April 8 via rollingstones.com and Ticketmaster.ca at 10 a.m. ET.

Here’s hoping you are getting a nice tax refund this year – the top ticket will run you a whopping $624.50 and the cheapest one will be $166.50.

The short trek ends in Philadelphia on June 18. This is just a hunch (sarcasm alert), but expect more dates to be added once the nine sell out, which will match the original rumoured 18 dates.

The band will also play London’s Hyde Park on Saturday, July 6 following a headlining appearance at UK’s Glastonbury Festival on June 29.

“’50 and Counting’ has been pretty amazing so far,” lead singer Mick Jagger said in a statement on Wednesday.

“We did a few shows in London and New York last year … and had such a good time that we thought…let’s do some more.”

Mick Taylor, who was a member of the Rolling Stones from 1969-74, will be a special guest throughout the tour.

Rolling Stone reported that Mick, Keef and co. will be paid $4-5 million per show.

Bye Bye Loser Leno, You Will Not Be Missed!!!

It’s official: Fallon in, Leno out

NEW YORK – Jimmy Fallon will take over from veteran Jay Leno next year as host of the NBC flagship talk program “The Tonight Show,” NBC said on Wednesday, bringing a younger feel to the competitive late-night landscape on U.S. television.

Leno, 62, will wrap up what will be 22 years as host of “The Tonight Show” in the spring of 2014 – some seven months before his contract was officially due to end.

Fallon, 38, the current host of “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” will “transition into new hosting duties on ‘The Tonight Show“’ after Leno ends his run, NBC said in a statement.

The network also said it was moving “The Tonight Show” from its Burbank studio, outside Los Angeles, to New York, where it began in 1954.

No specific date was announced, but the change will take place in conjunction with NBC’s broadcasts of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, next February.

Wednesday’s announcement ended months of speculation and followed a skit on Fallon’s show by him and Leno on Monday night in which they played down reports of rivalry and made fun of the rumor mill.

Leno, who was replaced by Conan O’Brien in 2009, only to return a few months later in a public relations debacle for the network, congratulated Fallon.

“I hope you’re as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you’re the old guy,” he said in a statement.

Fallon, who started out on the long-running “Saturday Night Live” comedy show in 1998, said, “I’m really excited to host a show that starts today instead of tomorrow,” referring to his current program’s post-midnight start time.

“We are purposefully making this change when Jay is number-one, just as Jay replaced Johnny Carson when he was number-one,” said Steve Burke, NBCUniversal’s CEO.

RATINGS LEADER

“The Tonight Show” has maintained a hold on U.S. popular culture for decades, offering a forum for celebrities to promote their latest ventures and a springboard to fame for many standup comedians.

The program currently leads its three late-night rivals in overall audience, attracting about 3.5 million viewers, compared with about 3 million for CBS rival David Letterman.

But the average age of viewers for Leno and Letterman, 65, is in the mid-50s – higher than the 18-49 demographic preferred by advertisers.

ABC upped the stakes in January by moving Jimmy Kimmel, 45, to the late-night slot in a bid to grab a younger audience. Kimmel’s ratings have challenged both Letterman and Leno in the 18-34 age group, while his overall audience is about 2.6 million, according to the most recent Nielsen data.

Kimmel proffered a winking posting via Twitter on Wednesday, saying, “congratulations to my dear, sweet zjimmyfallon – a formidable rival and an incredible lover.”

NBC said “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” producer Lorne Michaels would serve as executive producer of the relocated show. It will be broadcast from NBC headquarters in New York’s Rockefeller Center.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the state’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, welcomed the show’s return to New York.

“We couldn’t be happier that one of New York’s own is bringing the show back to where it started – and where it belongs,” Bloomberg said in a statement referring to Fallon’s Brooklyn roots.

Carson, who hosted the program from 1962 to 1992, moved the show to Southern California in 1972.

NBC said that programming plans for the 12:35 a.m. time slot now filled by Fallon’s show would be announced soon.

This truly is sad news, may she rest in peace.

Muppets co-creator Jane Henson dies

The Muppets co-creator Jane Henson has died at the age of 78.

The ex-wife of late star Jim Henson passed away at her home in Greenwich, Conn., on Tuesday after a long battle with cancer.

Henson met her husband-to-be at a puppetry class at the University of Maryland in 1954 and they subsequently made Sam and Friends, a forerunner of the famous puppets, for a TV station in Washington, D.C.

The Muppets was created in 1955 and went on to spawn films, television series and music recordings — most recently, the 2011 musical comedy of the same name featuring Jason Segel and Amy Adams.

Henson married Jim in 1959, but they legally separated in 1986, four years before the writer/director died in 1990.

Following their split, Henson continued her work with the Jim Henson Co. and became the point of entry to the company for several top puppeteers.

In 1992, the puppeteer founded the Jim Henson Legacy to conserve the artistic contribution of her late ex-husband, and in 2001 she created the Jane Henson Foundation for philanthropic work.

Good for him, but that show is so lame!!

‘Conan’ Renewed Through November 2015

TBS has extended the run of “Conan” through November 2015.

The move keeps O’Brien in place on the network he joined in November 2010, after he left NBC’s “Tonight Show” and Jay Leno returned as its as host. NBC plans to replace Leno with Jimmy Fallon by next fall, which would mean O’Brien will keep his current show at least a year longer than Leno will keep his.

The deal also keeps Andy Richter as the announcer for “Conan.”

“When we invited Conan O’Brien to come to TBS, we knew he would bring with him a passionately loyal following of young adults,” said Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies.

“Conan and his colleagues at Team Coco have gone far beyond that by making ‘Conan’ the top late-night brand in the digital arena. We are proud to extend our relationship with Conan as he continues to forge the future of late night,” Wright added. “I just wish we didn’t decide to tell him on April Fools’ Day.”

Grant to release 1st album of new songs in decade

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Amy Grant is set to release her first full album of all new songs in 10 years.

The Grammy-winning Christian recording artist’s “How Mercy Looks From Here” will be available May 14.

The album was produced by Marshall Altman and includes guest vocalists James Taylor, Carole King, Sheryl Crow, Will Hoge and Eric Paslay, who wrote the only song not penned by Grant on the album. Grant’s husband, Vince Gill, also makes an appearance.

The Nashville-based singer-songwriter is among the most successful Christian artists with multi-platinum album sales and crossover success on the pop music charts.

Grant started the album after a conversation with her mother, who passed away in 2011, and promises “no filler” in a news release announcing the record.
