Britney beats Denzel
"Crossroads," the feature film debut of the chart-topping teen pop music princess, opened at No. 1 with just over $1 million, beating out the new Denzel Washinton medical hostage drama "John Q" which cracked the chart at second place with $987,241.
The week's two other new movies did not fare as well: "Return To Never Land," the sequel to Disney's 1953 Peter Pan, debuted at No. 5 and the Bruce Willis WW II drama "Hart's War" came in at No. 8 with $595,346. Last week's champ "Collateral Damage" dived to the fourth spot in its second week with $839,089, while the Oscar nominated heavyweight "A Beautiful Mind" continued its strong run by remaining at No. 3.
