George Harrison Quotes

These are some quotations from an Associated Press interview with George Harrison earlier this year.

On the success of the Beatles' greatest hits CD, ``1:'' ``The thing that pleases me the most about it is that young people like it. It's given kids from 6 to 16 an alternate view of music to what's been available for the past 20 years.

``I think the popular music has gone truly weird. It's either cutesy-wutesy or it's hard, nasty stuff. It's good that this has life again with the youth.''

``If a car comes past me in a traffic jam with a boom box going, I jump out of my skin. Those big booming basses. I'm just more sensitive to noise these days.''

On his recovery from the December 1999 stabbing attack: ``I feel pretty good. You know, it's a difficult thing to get over. But I feel like I've gotten over it physically. My breathing is a little bit less percentage than it used to be. Other than that, I'm pretty cool.''

On the reissue of his first solo effort, ``All Things Must Pass:'' ``It was the biggest thrill in a way that it was my first record. To be able to do all my own songs on one record was a novelty at that point, you know.''

``Only the fact that people have written about the reissue have I realized that it spent seven weeks at No. 1. At the time I did it, I can't remember even taking any notice of it.'

Meet George Jetson...

"The Jetsons" gets rewrite for live-action movie

Saturday morning's favourite space-age family, "The Jetsons," is once again headed to the big screen.

But unlike the 1990 animated feature film -- which included then-hot pop singer Tiffany voicing Judy Jetson -- the show is being developed as a live-action project, Variety reports.

Rob Minkoff ("The Lion King," "Stuart Little") is to direct.

The screenplay is being rewritten by Paul Foley and Dan Forman, whose credits include the upcoming Brothers Grimm spoof "The Fraud Prince" and the puppet-feature "A Chicken And A Monkey Walk Into A Bar," Variety said.

Coming Next Year

Buena Vista's in America, Alliance Atlantis in Canada, have unofficially set February 12th, 2002, as the tentative release date for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. This will indeed be a special edition. Details to follow as soon as I get them...

Paramount has let it slip that their long-awaited Saturday Night Fever will finally see the light of day in 2002 (no word on Grease). We've also got word that the Star Trek II special edition will arrive on 6/25 of next year, with TNG Season 1 due on 3/19 and Season 2 following on 5/7.

Universal's quietly informed retailers that its 2002 slate will FINALLY include the Back to the Future Trilogy (reportedly due Summer 2002) as well as collector's editions of The Sting and Slap Shot. This is in addition to the DVD release of the E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: 20th Anniversary Edition, which it's now confirmed will contain both the new cut of the film and the original theatrical version.

And finally, we've got word that Anchor Bay's forthcoming Evil Dead: Book of the Dead Edition will feature a second disc of the film's soundtrack, along with a booklet that will include 13 pages of new Book of the Dead artwork created by Tom Sullivan himself.

Stay tuned...

Just days from her 20th birthday, pop star Britney Spears says her new ballad, ``I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,'' is her favorite song because it captures her state of mind. In the song on her new album, ``Britney,'' Spears sings of being at an age where she feels she's ``caught in the middle.'' ``It's really where I'm at right now,'' Spears said in Sunday's edition of the Los Angeles Daily News. ``Yes, I'm on the verge of being a woman. I need my own identity. I need to grow and do things on my own.'' Spears, who leaves her teen-age years behind on Dec. 2, is on tour through late December.

And if you see her, tell her: "Dan says Hi!"

But Is It Successful

Prior to Friday's opening, Box Office pundits were saying that "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone" would be the first film to break the $100 million dollar mark for a non- Holiday weekend. Now, while it is true that Harry Potter has smashed all of the industry's records, it didn't do over $100 million. So is it a success?

Thankfully, the movie is good. So to that end, it is quite successful.

Warner decides to Follow that Bird

Never receiving quite the same fame as its "Muppet" counterparts, the first "Sesame Street" feature Follow that Bird was a delight for children back in 1985. Now the all but forgotten film gets new life from Warner Brothers Home Video with a new DVD release.

After being evicted from Sesame Street, and placed in a foster home, Big Bird begins a long adventure wandering the country. Unfortunately for the big yellow bird, life outside of Sesame Street is quite a bit different. Con men, schuksters, and criminals take advantage of Big Bird until our hero ends up in a circus cage painted blue. In the mean time, Maria, Luis, and all the Sesame Street gang take off to find Big Bird and bring him back to his nest in one piece.

Currently, no information is available surrounding this title. No word on technical features or extras is available. The disc will be available on February 5th for $19.98. But it's coming, and for now, that is enough for me!

Get A Woody!

In January, Dreamworks casts The Curse of the Jade Scorpion

Dreamworks Home Video took a break from publicizing their recently released "Shrek" to announce the upcoming release of Woody Allen's most recent - and heavily overlooked - fall project. The neurotic comedy Curse of the Jade Scorpion is coming to DVD in January.

CW Briggs is the top insurance investigator in 1940s New York. Well, that's what he keeps telling the top efficiency expert, Betty Ann "Fitz" Fitzgerald. Briggs prides himself on being able to crack any insurance caper by getting into the mind of the thief, but the hypnotic powers of the Jade Scorpion gets the mind of the thief into Briggs. Now his work is on the brink of disaster as he copes with his new love-hate, hate-love relationship with Fitz.

Presented in anamorphic widescreen , "Curse of the Jade Scorpion" contains its original 2.0 mono audio mix and will contain a theatrical trailer and production notes. "Curse of the Jade Scorpion" will be priced at $32.99. On January 29th, you can fall under its spell.

Gonna Kick The Bucket...

GUNS Tour Closes, Due To Kicking Bucket

GUNS N' ROSES have canceled their European tour set to begin in December, with manager Doug Goldstein taking the blame. "Following the euphoria of [the band's appearance at the] Rock in Rio [concert], I jumped the gun and arranged a European tour as our plan was to have the new album out this year," reads a statement released by Goldstein.

"Unfortunately, Buckethead's illness not only stopped the tour, but it slowed down our progress on 'Chinese Democracy.' I am very sorry to disappoint our fans, but I can assure them that this is not what Axl wanted, nor is it 'Another page from the Howard Hughes of rock,' as some media will no doubt portray it. I made a plan, and unfortunately it did not work out." The tour was to make up for a 14-date tour canceled in June after guitarist Buckethead fell ill with an unspecified stomach ailment.

I hate to sound sceptical about this, but I will because I know the average person doesn't have a hope in hell.

If you think you have what it takes, Muchmusic is holding open VJ auditions across Canada. So if you fit into thier "demographics"- young, attractive in a 'unique' way, have very little personality, etc., then you should give it some thought.

Seriously, have you watched MuchMusic lately?!?! The only VJ worth watching is a sock. They don't have people who are a VJ, they have folks who are MT.

But good luck to you!

The statuesque MADE star, who split from filmmaker husband TODD WILLIAMS last year, is "absolutely not" looking for love, despite media reports that she bedded PEARL HARBOR star Affleck before getting bored and dropping him. She says, "He's part of a group of friends I've known a long time. We never even dated. I don't even like talking about dating. It's like having a stamp on your forehead: 'I'm available and I'm looking'." She adds, "I've been in relationships since I was 16, so it's nice to have a little break. It's nice to find out you can do things on your own - like I can drill things in my apartment with a power drill. I'm excited about that. "Before, I'd have asked the person I was with to do it. Little things like that give me satisfaction."

I Did Not Know That

Daryl Hannah Sheds Her Prosthetic Finger

SPLASH star DARYL HANNAH has found the courage to show her missing finger stump - after baring all to play the role of a stripper in her latest movie. The actress had an accident when she was just three-years-old and cut off the end of her index finger on her left hand. In the past the actress has worn a flesh-colored prosthetic digit to cover the missing finger tip, and often kept her entire hand hidden in a pocket. But since her new movie DANCING AT THE BLUE IGUANA, in which she plays the racy role of a stripper, Hannah has found the courage to bare all. She says, "I had a bad accident and I got my finger stuck in the pulley of a water well at my grandmother's house when I was three." Her publicist NICOLE PEREZ adds, "If she does wear a prosthetic these days, it's only because someone specifically asks her to for her work."

Wow! I didn't know her's was fake. She always looked so actual and natural.

Can We Trust Them?

I know I promised to stop feeding the hype machine, but I can't help myself! So here's another Harry Potter story: The British film critics are saying that "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone" is perfect .

But then again, the number one song in the U.K. is "I Get High" by Afroman and the top CD is "Invincible" by Michael Jackson...

Jack Visits Site Of Attack

Nicholson Visits Ground Zero

Heroes working at New York's Ground Zero site got a surprise visit last Tuesday from JACK NICHOLSON. The legend arrived unannounced at the wreck of the WORLD TRADE CENTER to sign autographs and shake hands, and used his famous smile to get past various checkpoints. Rescue workers were shocked he wasn't accompanied by a bodyguard. One eyewitness says, "They found four bodies that day, so morale was pretty low. But energy levels rose a thousand percent when they saw who it was." The OSCAR-winner was taken up to the roof of a building overlooking the site for a better view of the devastation. The onlooker adds, "The sun was setting, and it was beautiful everywhere you looked except right in front of you. It's horrendous."

Nicholson, 64, who was provided with a hard hat, was briefly allowed to operate one of the cranes being used to dig out the layers of debris. He left after three hours, shaken by the experience, but glad he'd been able to show his support.

Sez Buffy: "Don't Call Me Sexy."

TV babe SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR hates being called sexy. The blonde BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER star is well-known for being a Hollywood babe, but she'd much rather be famous for being clever.

The 24-year-old says, "Being sexy is being confident. "It's important to know you don't have silicone breasts falling out and a thigh-high skirt. "Sometimes you meet people and they think, 'Another cute little blonde actress'. That's not who I am."

That's right. It's not who she is. Plus she's not sexy. She never has been. She's hot! Really hot!
