May he rest in peace.

Country singer Little Jimmy Dickens dies at 94

Country Music Hall of Famer Little Jimmy Dickens died Friday afternoon. He was 94 years old.

According to a statement released by legendary country show the Grand Ole Opry (of which Dickens was the longest running member), Dickens died from cardiac arrest after suffering a stroke on Christmas Day.

Born James Cecil Dickens, the singer’s stage name was a self-deprecating reference to his small stature—Dickens was 4’11” and didn’t mind joking about it. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, Dickens would go on to have seven singles in the Country Top 10, with songs like “May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose” earning him significant crossover appeal.

Dickens is survived by his wife, Mona Dickens, and two daughters, Pamela Detert and Leslie King.
