Paul McCartney says he never wants to retire

Paul McCartney has said that he never wants to retire from making music.

Earlier this week (August 29), the Beatles legend released a new track and issued details of a brand new album – both of which are titled ‘New’. The single is produced by Mark Ronson, while the LP features a number of star-studded producers including Adele hitmaker Paul Epworth and Kings Of Leon and Laura Marling cohort Ethan Johns.

McCartney, who is now 71-years-old, told radio station WXRT Chicago that he has every intention of recording and releasing new music in the future. “I get so many people coming up to me on the street saying, ‘Your music changed my life,'” he said. “And I get a lot of cool musicians saying it, like Tom Petty and Dave Grohl.

“For me, the main thing is I love making music so much. If I retired, I’d still do exactly what I do. So I may as well not retire.” He then added: “Retire from what? I’d do this for nothing.”

The single ‘New’ is available now – scroll down to the bottom of the page and click to listen. The track boasts asound reminiscent of McCartney’s ‘Penny Lane’-era songwriting and its lyrics begin: “Don’t look at me, it’s way too soon to see/What’s going to be, don’t look at me/All my life I never knew what we could be what I could do when we were new.”

McCartney released his last studio album, ‘Kisses On The Bottom’, in February 2012. ‘New’, which also features production work from Giles Martin, son of legendary Beatles producer George Martin, will be released on October 7.
