Al Pacino Says He Turned Down Star Wars, Die Hard and Other Famous Films

It looks like Al Pacino got an offer he could refuse. Actually, make that several offers.

While discussing his career to a packed house at the Palladium in London over the weekend, the Godfather actor recalled some of the famous roles he turned down, including that of Han Solo.

“Star Wars was mine for the taking, but I didn’t understand the script,” said the Oscar winner, according to the London Evening Standard.

What’s more, Pacino revealed that he also passed on the part of John McClane in 1988’s Die Hard, which later went to Bruce Willis.
“I gave that boy a career,” he noted.

Among the other offers? Both the Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) and Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) roles in Apocalypse Now, as well as Richard Gere’s part in a little film called Pretty Woman.

“I’m not a very good judge of what’s good,” joked Pacino.
