It will still likely cost her the Oscar!!

Jennifer Lawrence explains ‘I beat Meryl!’ dig at Golden Globes

When Jennifer Lawrence won her Best Actress Golden Globe for “Silver Linings Playbook” Sunday night, her typically candid acceptance contained the statement “I beat Meryl!” Many interpreted this as a slight against Meryl Streep, who was also nominated in the category but not present at the ceremony. Yet Lawrence told David Letterman yesterday that this could not be further from the truth.

As it turns out, she was quoting from the 1996 film “The First Wives Club,” in which, as Lawrence relates, “Bette Midler was talking about [a Golden Globe], I can’t believe nobody’s ever done it before. She said, ‘Look what it says: I beat Meryl.'” Lawrence went on to profess her admiration for Streep.

Who would have imagined that on a night Quentin Tarantino also gave an acceptance speech, the most obscure pop culture reference would be made by the Girl on Fire?
