‘Anchorman 2’: Christina Applegate confirmed to reprise role

The blond beauty who stole Ron Burgundy’s heart in “Anchorman” is officially coming back for the sequel.

Christina Applegate is confirmed to reprise her role as Veronica Corningstone in “Anchorman 2,” this according to Entertainment Weekly. Word of the possible casting leaked out in an E! Online interview with film co-star David Koechner.

When asked if Applegate will be in the long-awaited picture, he tells the publication “Yes, yes.” Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and Koechner are already confirmed to return for the follow-up to the hit 2004 comedy.

As for what the movie will be about, co-writer and director Adam McKay has previously stated that the film takes place “right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79…All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.”

And Veronica Corningstone will be there to cover all of it.

If you’ve got a heart then Gumby’s a part of you…Rest In Peace, Mr. Beals!!

Dick Beals, voice of Gumby, dies at age 85

Dick Beals turned a glandular condition into a thriving career.

The radio and television voice-over star whose work included the animated characters Gumby and Speedy Alka-Seltzer died in Southern California on Tuesday at Vista Gardens Memory Care, reports the Los Angeles Times. He was 85.

Beals was the original voice of the title character on The Gumby Show in the late 1950s. Any who watched will remember that Gumby’s voice had a high-pitched tone. Beals’ voice, because of his glandular condition, hadn’t changed since elementary school. He stood 4 feet 6 inches tall, and he weighed less than 70 pounds. He often got jobs that called for a child-like voice.

“I’m the voice of little babies to 15-year-olds. In cartoons, I have also been the voice of all kinds of animals — parrots, chipmunks, birds, rabbits, you name it,” Beals said in 1992.

By the time he stopped working, he had been the unseen pitchman in more than 3,000 commercials for products including Oscar Mayer and Campbell’s Soup.

Andy Samberg leaving ‘Saturday Night Live’

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Andy Samberg has wrapped his seven-season run on “Saturday Night Live,” a spokeswoman for the actor-comedian said Friday.

Samberg won’t return as a cast member next season, according to his publicist, Carrie Byalick. Samberg’s exit follows that of “SNL” cast member Kristen Wiig.

Like other “Saturday Night Live” alumni, Samberg will be seen on the big screen. His new movie with Adam Sandler, “That’s My Boy,” is out this month.

Samberg’s “SNL” highlights reel would feature his satiric rap videos including “Lazy Sunday” and a memorable one with Justin Timberlake about an X-rated gift in a box. The fake music video won an Emmy Award in 2007 for best original music and lyrics.

Wiig, Samberg and Jason Sudeikis, all of whom became cast members in the 2005-06 season, have been rumored to be leaving, with “SNL” creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels saying only that any decision would wait until summer.

That presumably meant no emotional on-air farewells.

But on the May 19 finale, Wiig got just that. In the last sketch of the night, guest host Mick Jagger played the principal at a high school graduation and brought up Wiig, in cap and gown, as a student who is “leaving this summer.”

A tearful Wiig danced in turn with Jagger, cast members and Michaels to the tune of the Rolling Stones classic “She’s a Rainbow.”
