But…I love them all!!!

Starship’s ‘We Built This City’ voted worst song of the 80s

In a poll conducted by Rolling Stone magazine to find the most atrocious track of the decade, the 1985 song co-written by Elton John lyricist Bernie Taupin came out top.

It was closely followed by Europe’s ‘Final Countdown’ and Chris de Burgh’s slushy classic ‘Lady In Red’, with honourable mentions for Toni Basil’s ‘Mickey’ and Wham!’s ‘Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go)’.

Unfortunately, not even its new status as the internet joke that keeps on giving could save Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ from making the shortlist.

Here’s the full list:

1 – Starship – ‘We Built This City’
2 – Europe – ‘The Final Countdown’
3 – Chris de Burgh – ‘Lady In Red’
4 – Wham! – ‘Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go)’
5 – Men Without Hats – ‘The Safety Dance’
6 – Falco – ‘Rock Me Amadeus’
7 – Bobby McFerrin – ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’
8 – Toni Basil – ‘Mickey’
9 – Taco – ‘Puttin’ On The Ritz’
