The ‘Friends’ Have Baby Daughter
As expected, Rachel gave birth to a baby girl Thursday night. Little Emma’s father, Ross, assisted with the delivery.
Then, in an unexpected twist, the new mom accepted Joey’s inadvertent marriage offer.
The season finale of “Friends,” TV’s top-rated series, focused on the maternity ward for the much-anticipated delivery.
“She looks so real!” exclaimed none-too-bright friend Joey (Matt LeBlanc) on first glimpsing the infant.
“I’m so glad you guys got drunk and had sex,” said Monica (Courteney Cox Arquette) to unwed parents Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) and Ross (David Schwimmer).
Then, inspired by the blessed event, Monica and hubby Chandler (Matthew Perry) retreated to a janitor’s closet to try to make their own baby. Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) flirted with an attractive bedridden patient.
At the fadeout of the hour-long episode, Joey, whose affection for Rachel was rebuffed earlier in the season, picked a ring off the floor dropped by Ross. Rachel tearfully accepted what she took to be his wedding proposal.
The Ross-and-Rachel storyline occupied much of the NBC sitcom’s eighth and most successful season. Next year is expected to be the series’ last.
